VIC Vehicle Classification

A vehicle entered into any national rally or speed event must hold a current VIC (vehicle identity card), some branches also require a current VIC for local events. This scheme is administered by our national office through your local branch. Application forms for a VIC are available for download below, the completed forms should be sent to your branch secretary for processing.

FAQs

To ensure the correct application is completed please read the questions below carefully and download the appropriate forms. See the Waka Kotahi website regarding seatbelts and child restraints.


1. Have you just purchased a vehicle, which already has a Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) ID Card? This card is now invalid. To transfer details please select change of ownership (Form A4) for the appropriate form. Once completed, this is sent to the Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc) National Office for processing. Please note, if you are not a member, there is a charge of $100 applicable.


2. Are you a Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) financial member and wish to apply for a Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) ID Card or Historic Motor Vehicle Date of Manufacture & Authenticity Statement? Click to download Form A here.


PLEASE NOTE: If you require a Lighting Equipment Endorsement (Headlamps) you also need application for lighting equipment endorsement (A6). Download form A6 here and/or Download form A6a here (Lighting Equipment Endorsement Motorcycle indicators/stop lamps) here.

Once completed, this/these forms must be sent to your own branch secretary for processing.


3. I am not a member of the Vintage Car Club of NZ can I obtain a Vintage Car Club of NZ ID Card or Historic Motor Vehicle Date of Manufacture & Authenticity Statement? Yes non-members of the VCCNZ should apply using form A1. Download Form A1 here. PLEASE NOTE: If you require a Lighting Equipment Endorsement (Headlamps) you also need application for lighting equipment endorsement. Download Form A6 (lighting endorsement) here or Download Form A6a (Lighting Equipment Endorsement Motorcycle indicators/stop lamps) here. Once completed, this/these forms must be sent to the branch closest to you (see branch listings) and be accompanied with payment of $100.


4. Do you currently hold a valid Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) ID Card or Historic Motor Vehicle Date of Manufacture & Authenticity Statement and have discovered you require a lighting endorsement? Download Form A6 here and/or Download Form A6a (Lighting Equipment Endorsement Motorcycle indicators/stop lamps) here. Once completed, this along with your Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) ID Card or Historic Motor Vehicle Date of Manufacture & Authenticity Statement should be sent to your branch secretary (or if a non member, to your closest branch) for processing.


5. Do you reside overseas and belong to the overseas branch of the Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.)? Are you bringing a vehicle from overseas for a Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) National, International or Speed Event? You will require a Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) Historic Motor Vehicle Date of Manufacture & Authenticity Statement. Download form A2 here.


6. Are you an overseas resident, a non member of the Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) attending a Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) National or International event? You will require a Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) Historic Motor Vehicle Date of Manufacture & Historic Motor Vehicle Date of Manufacture & Authenticity Statement. Download form A3 here. Please note, there is a charge of NZD$35 which must accompany the application.


7. Are you a Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) Member attending a Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) Speed Event? You will require a New Zealand Historic Racing Licence and Logbook. Click here to download historic_race_license and historic_race_log book applications (two separate files to download).


8. If you own a historic motorcycle that cannot meet the lighting requirements in the Lighting Rule and would therefore not meet the requirements for a Warrant of Fitness, it is suggested that you obtain a lighting equipment endorsement.


The rule (under 1.4(4)) allows other lighting equipment to be covered in the endorsement and the revision of the Land Transport NZ Info sheet 2.03 revision 2 extends the system to include direction indicators and stop lamps on historic motorcycles. This updated info sheet can be found on the Waka Kotahi website

Once completed, this along with your Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc.) ID Card or Historic Motor Vehicle Date of Manufacture & Authenticity Statement (Download Form A here) should be sent to your branch secretary (or if a non member, to your closest branch) for processing.
